First Eucharist for Children

The Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is the "source and summit" for our lives as Christians. Preparing children to come to the table of the Lord for the first time is a significant period in their lives and the life of the community.

Adequate preparation for celebrating the sacrament will support their spiritual growth and make clear that as they are nourished from the Eucharist, they are called to feed those around them. Children must be baptized before beginning preparation for this sacrament.

Preparation sessions involve both parents and children. The sessions begin just before the season of Lent. When children have completed these sessions and are ready to celebrate Eucharist fully for the first time, the parish community welcomes them to the table during our regularly scheduled Masses. When parents register their child for First Eucharist preparation, they will choose from among weekend classes.

Parents and children preparing for First Eucharist are expected to:

  • Be registered members of the parish and active in the life of the community as they are able.
  • Participate in the Faith Formation for All Wednesday evening program.
  • Children must be baptized.

Orientation Meeting scheduled for 1/7/2015 during which a detailed weekly session schedule will be available. Please see FFA Schedule for Dates of Weekly Sessions. First Eucharist Retreat will be 4/18/2015. First Eucharist will take place during the regular parish Mass schedule after Easter, spring of 2015.
