First Reconciliation for Children

Preparation for celebrating the sacrament for the first time or any time after means grounding our need for forgiveness in relationships of love - love of God, love of neighbor, and love of self.

It is also important to help children understand that sin, breaking these relationships of love, is both individual and social. Like adults, as children grow in their understanding of right and wrong, they need a corresponding understanding that whatever has been done wrong, God's mercy and forgiveness remains a constant source to help us grow stronger in a Christian way of life.

Preparation sessions for the Sacrament of Reconciliation involve both children and parents and are geared for children in second grade and older.

Parents and children preparing for Reconciliation are expected to:

  • Be registered members of the parish and active in the life of the community as they are able.
  • Children must be baptized.
  • Participate in the preparation sessions and the sacramental celebration as scheduled.
