Our philosophy is to provide a nurturing environment that
promotes strong Christian values; encourages self-esteem, respect, creativity,
independence and critical thinking; and prepares students for an enriched life of
continuous learning. We educate the whole child and take pride in watching our student
grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically, as well as academically.
When Christ the King and St. Thomas the Apostle parishes combined their schools in
1992, they brought together two communities with long and interesting histories. St.
Thomas the Apostle was found in 1925 and staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Carondelet. It served the growing Catholic population for 14 years before a new school
opened one mile south at Christ the King in 1939. Both schools became strong beacons for
Catholic education in Minneapolis, and more recently have also attracted many families
from the neighboring suburbs of Edina, Bloomington and St. Louis Park.
The combined school utilizes both school buildings, with kindergarten through second
grade on the St. Thomas the Apostle lower campus. The Christ the King upper campus includes an elementary and middle
school program for grades three through eight.
Although the majority of our students are Catholic, our enrollment is not limited to
members of the two parishes. A number of students are members of other Catholic parishes
or are from non-Catholic families attracted to the excellent education and fine
cooperative spirit the school offers.
Not all learning takes place in the classroom at Carondelet. Our students realize that
reading from textbooks and memorizing math facts are only a part of the overall learning
experience. Time and again our alumni have proven that the life skills taught here remain
with them long after graduation.
